Acrylic paint can be made easier to deal with when you’re pouring by simply adding water to thin it out. Water is an excellent medium to start with when pouring on a tight budget.

But there are several serious drawbacks to using water. Water will dilute your colors, which means that when applied to canvas, the brilliance of your paint will be lost. Your paints’ binding agents are also diluted by water, which prevents them from adhering to canvas as well as from working at all on harder surfaces.

You’ll notice an uneven consistency when dealing with your diluted acrylics because water and paint can’t entirely bind. If your paints contain water, you could notice that when they dry, they flake and lift off the canvas. The adhesion of layers is also impossible.
