The primary components are alcohol and colour. Ink is moved by alcohol, and dye is the colour that is left over when the alcohol has evaporated. When applied, ink with a higher alcohol level will move more, whilst one with a lower alcohol content will move less.

Depending on the colour you pick, a few common dye alternatives have a few unique chemicals, although they are present in such little amounts that there shouldn’t be any problems.

The precise proportions of alcohol and dye will vary based on the particular brand you are using, much like with the majority of ink, dye, and paint alternatives available.
